the MUSE: Hanne Gaby Odiele

Eclectic is the key word to describe Belgian model Hanne Gaby Odiele's style. She effortlessly manages to mix funky prints, vintage pieces and designer duds for a unique look that is all her own. An exciting dresser, Hanne builds her wardrobe from an assortment of interesting random pieces. A true fashion chameleon, she shifts gracefully from one style to the next. Her look is all about mixing funky brights with fine tailored pieces, combining patterns and textures that ordinarily would not fit together, and dressing up a simple band tee or denim jacket with couture making it fiercely fashionable. Her talent for eclectic dressing is quite admirable and inspiring. I love her use of statement pieces, ethnic print jackets, a leather and lace Christopher Kane dress, pony hair animal print flats, bright socks, and of course, that swoonworthy yellow PS1 bag. Hanne's look is about taking risks, so just say "yes" to that over-the-top print or acid green handbag.

on the rocks

{fig. 2-4} From the Heimstone look book {fig. 5} From Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony is easily one of my favorite shops in Los Angeles. One of the reasons being that I am always introduced to new and obscure designers that quickly become amongst the ranks of my favorites. Recently Heimstone has captured my interest with prints that remind me of the veins in granite or earthly erosion in satellite photos. I love beauty that can be found in nature. The color palette used in these Heimstone prints look very natural, as though taken from a slab of granite.

The jumper with its aqua and clay hues remind me of a beach in Taiwan I visited with relatives as a child. I remember pretending that I was on Mars-like planet because it looked like a scene from a science fiction movie. There were huge reddish rocks that had been eroded by the sea and resembled coral formations. The teal of the Pacific Ocean mixing with veins of clay-like sand on the shore. This post is inspiring me to go look at more satellite images. I'm off to marvel in the beauty of our planet Earth and hats off to Heimstone for creating a wearable version!

FALL TREND: paint by number

Basso and Brooke Jill Stuart Fall 11 paint by number

{photos via Krisatomic}

As a child "paint by number" was one of my absolute favorite things. Hours and days would be spent "painting" horses and picturesque mountain terrains. How proud I was after finishing a picture, as though it were my masterpiece. The Fall '11 Jill Stuart and Basso & Brooke collection happily reminds me of my childhood hobby. The jewel tone colors, the rich silky fabric, and those slightly kitsch prints are just much too fantastic. Although summer has just arrived, I am already looking forward to fall thanks to this collection.

One rainy evening in February, Space 1520 in Hollywood hosted a fun-tastic evening of music, by DJ Geometric, and fashion, featuring Stone Cold Fox's delightful Spring collection, handbags from Novella Royale and jewelry by Luv AJ. Filled with delicate crocheted laces, sensually short hem-lines, striped retro flares and romantic bell sleeves, the collection had me looking forward to spring. Now that spring has sprung, I can't wait to add that white lace mini-dress to my closet. The pieces invoked a nostalgic feel with a touch of Spanish flare that is everything I want to be wearing right now. Check out the Stone Cold Fox website for the full collection.

See Refinery 29's coverage of the night here.

As a long time fan of Refinery 29, I was really honored to be photographed as one of their "7 Looks We Love" for weekend shopper style. I was wearing an outfit that some of the fabulous ladies at the Bellevue Aritzia helped me pick out. Shout-out to Kayla for convincing me that I couldn't live without this fabulous Mackage leather jacket and Lynda for showing me this insanely gorgeous silk slip dress. They've both become two of my favorite pieces.
