the TREND: Weather Clothing

High up in the sky beyond the tree tops and the haze is there a beautiful woman, the Queen of the Sky, sitting at a spinning wheel weaving the clouds? Modern science seems to suggest the answer is "no". My imagination suggests the answer is "yes". Okay, perhaps there isn't a mystical lady weaving the colors into the sky, but this season there are a plethora of wonderful designers weaving cumulus and volcanic clouds, rain drops and storm fronts into fantastic frocks. From lightening blazing across Risto Bimbiloski dresses to volcanic plumes of ash rising from Carven's collection, the weather has never been hotter. Kaelen Farncombe a New York-based designer of the line Kaelen, has always found inspiration in the weather. Just check out those floaty, dreamy silk dresses with that invoke a watercolor sky. There is no better time to have your head in the clouds.

PRE-FALL: Alexander Wang

{dress} Alexander Wang {photos} Opening Ceremony

Thanks a lot Alexander Wang. It's the dead of summer and all I can think about is slinking around on a fall evening in that marigold colored wisp of a silk dress. Its the color of autumn leaves when they're changing. I shouldn't be thinking such thoughts, it's summer, but thanks to pre-fall looks coming out I'm looking forward to colder weather with open arms. Bring me that dress!

Across The Universe: Christopher Kane

{fig. 1} pleated skirt from Shadowplay NYC, dress from Black Milk Clothing, dress with crinoline skirt from Christopher Kane, swimsuit from Black Milk Clothing, galaxy print Lita boots from Jeffrey Campbell {fig. 2} from Tina Kalivas {fig. 3} via cardboard antlers {fig. 4-8} Christopher Kane Resort 2011 from style.com {fig. 9} Alexa Chung in Christopher Kane via upscalehype {fig. 10} Shadowplay NYC {fig. 11 & 12} Tina Kalivas

Did you know that some of the stars we see in the night sky have already died long ago? That every time we look to the stars we are looking into a very distant past? Thanks to the speed with which light travels, some of those stars twinkling above us have already collapsed or gone super nova. How is it that something a billion years old looks so good on fabric?

I'm absolutely obsessed with all of the galaxy prints coming out. Christopher Kane's Resort line was just too amazing for words. I want it all, but my pocketbook highly disagrees. I guess I'll make do with the one tank top I managed to snag from the line, and keep vigil looking for copy-cats. The Tina Kaliva's dresses are quite breathtaking and Shadowplay NYC's burgeoning line of Hubble prints are quite intriguing. Take back yesterday and give me the universe!
