seattle style

When you think of Seattle style what is the first thing that comes to mind? Ripped jeans and cozy flannels that harken back to the 90's and Nirvana? Raincoats and heavy-duty galoshes? You aren't alone in your assumptions, but be prepared to be surprised. Pleasantly surprised. Being an LA Blogger in Seattle for the summer, I didn't know what to expect when it comes to quintessential Seattle style. I surveyed the crowds at the Bite of Seattle last weekend, and this is what I saw. Colored denim, and lots of it! Button-up denim shirts seemed to be de riguer, as well as lace-up ankle boots paired with floral dresses. The drapey sleeveless blouse was also a popular contender, and always paired with a statement necklace.

Above are some ideas from one of my fave stores, Aritzia. They're a one-stop shop for that perfect summer look.

bite of seattle

{ikat romper} 10 Crosby by Derek Lam {chevalier blazer} Wilfred by Aritzia {bracelets} Madewell {necklace} Elena Estaun {fedora} Talula from Aritzia {wedges} Cynthia Vincent for Target

I ate alligator on a stick! That's right, this past weekend was the Bite of Seattle, where there were so many strange and delicious things on a stick to sample. The Louisiana crab cakes were amazing, and the pierogies were just divine. I ate more than I'd like to admit. My inner foodie was delighted! And for the record, alligator does taste like chicken.

I wore this snazzy little ikat romper from 10 Crosby by Derek Lam. A lucky score from the Aritzia summer sale! My apologies for the crappy iPhone pics. Someone, (yeah me) forgot to charge their SLR. We took a break from the feasting to catch The Dark Knight Returns in IMAX at the Pacific Science Center. Does anyone else just feel a little bit bad for Bane? Or am I just a sucker for villains with redeeming qualities?

knits and shorts

{image via} Knight Cat

Isabel Marant. What can I say? I want to live in her clothes. This image from backstage at her SS12 show is everything I want, need, gotta-have in an everyday uniform. I want to wear short shorts and oversized chunky knits everywhere, anywhere and all the time.

How perfect is that multi-colored sweater?! It looks-like a cross between something you'd make at summer camp and something your super-hip Grammy would knit. Isabel Marant, I love you.

A fun weekend in Seattle! The summer weather has finally arrived, and Seafair events abound. This breezy top from Lerario Beatriz paired with denim cut-offs from Current Elliot were the perfect outfit for lazing about the city and then hitting the lake for Seafair activities. Summer in the city always means pieces that are comfy, but still have a bit of structure or detail like the stitching pattern on this blouse.

Spent Friday kayaking on Lake Washington. What a blast! I'm officially a kayak fan. Saturday was the Seafair Milk Carton Derby on Green Lake. As a kid I always wanted to build a boat for this event. I would guzzle milk like crazy for about a month to collect cartons. Then the lazy daisies would set in. Typically I'd build a small portion of a boat, but never finish. Maybe next year if I'm in Seattle for Seafair, I'll construct the milk carton yacht of my dreams. This year the Delorean was my fave of all the contestants. Hope you all had a fun weekend!

a moveable feast

A tree grows in Beverly Hills, covered in carvings immortalizing the initials of teenage lovers. The branches are sprawling and expansive, and magical. This is a tree that belongs in a fairy tale forest. The perfect spot to snap some pics in this equally magical riding vest from A Moveable Feast, a capsule collection from Aritzia named after Ernest Hemingway's memoirs. This vest is unlike anything I've seen before. Raw edges, beautifully textured Japanese crepe fabric, and that high-low hem detail. Perfect paired with a simple silk slip dress from Twelfth Street By Cynthia Vincent, my go-to for breezy basics.

A few weeks ago, after attending the opening reception for Yeonju Sung's new wearable foods exhibit at the Pacific Design Center, my friend Sarah and I booked it over to In Residence on Sawtelle, one of my favorite boutiques in Los Angeles for the POPOMOMO SS12 Trunk Show.

In Residence always has a perfectly curated stock of everything you want to be wearing and POPOMOMO happens to be one of those lines. POPOMOMO stands for Post- Post Modern Movement, and not only is the line eco-friendly and sustainable, but designed and made in Los Angeles. You gotta love local designers!
I had to share a few pics from the POPOMOMO SS12 look book featuring some of my faves. How amazing is that cream-colored top with one sleeve and that coral colored dress with the cut-out back and sleeves?! The blue Lake Michigan Photogram print was also pretty incredible!

See more at POPOMOMO's site and check out In Residence if you're in the LA area!

happy independence day

Happy July 4th! Hope everyone is having a fun day! I'm celebrating with a mini-grill and bratwurst, plus some dinky little fireworks for later. It's been interesting spending the 4th in Seattle for a change. In LA fireworks are a big no-no, so it has been rather strange seeing stands selling them every where. Since the 4th is a purely American holiday, I decided to be a little cheesy and wear red, white, and blue. The perfect day for some vintage duds that belong at a picnic.
